January 28, (THEWILL) – The popular Ogbaru Relief Market near Onitsha, Anambra state is on fire.
The fire was caused by an explosion from a fuel tanker on Friday at Obodoukwu junction along Onitsha-Owerri road, Anambra State.
The fire which is still raging at the time of filing this report has burnt over 10 storey buildings, vehicles and tricycles.
No life has been lost yet, but goods and property worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire.
However, fire services both from Anambra and Delta states arrived at the scene trying to put out the fire.
Spokesperson of the Anambra Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said: “Information reveals that the cause of the fire is as a result of a tanker carrying fuel by Obodoukwu junction along Onitsha-Owerri road.
“The situation is under control and is closely monitored. The Police and fire service are currently on ground there.”
