How Five Persons Hacked And Withdrew N114.8m From Bank Accounts

A 29-year-old man, Odewale Moroof, believed to be a staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, alongside four others have been arrested and charged to court in connection with theft.
The suspects: Adejumo Saheed, 37, Sylvester Ozoikie, 36, Akinsanya Olayiwola, 35 and Dickson Ologwu, 23, who were arrested by operatives of the X Squad of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos state, were alleged to have hacked into an account of a new generation bank and withdrew the sum of N114, 806, 000 without authorisation and converted the money to their personal use.
The suspects were Tuesday, arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on a two-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
According to the Police prosecutor, ASP Henry Obiazi, in charge No B/14/2016, the accused persons committed the offence in November, 2014 at the headquarters of the new generation bank in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Obiazi noted that the accused persons connived with others still at large to hack into the account of the bank to withdraw the said amount and transferred the money into 69 accounts from where they withdrew the money and shared it.
“The offences are punishable under sections 409 and 285(5)(a) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011,” the prosecutor said.
Meanwhile, the accused persons pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Miss A. O. Awogboro admitted them to bail in the sum of N10m each with two sureties each in like sum, one of whom must be a blood relation.
The Magistrate directed that one of the sureties must have a property on Lagos Island with valid documents.
Awogboro adjourned the matter till 23 March, 2016 for mention, ordering that the accused persons be remanded at Ikoyi prison pending when they will fulfill their bail conditions.
