A total of 1, 629, 427 Nigerians living with HIV are on treatment, Coordinator, National AIDS, STI and Hepatitis Control Programme (NASCP), Akudo Ikpeazu, has said.
She said this in Abuja Wednesday during a news briefing organised by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS ahead of World AIDS Day.
She said as of the end of June 2021, 57, 280 children between zero and 14 years were on treatment; while 551, 106 adult males 15 years and above were on treatment.
She said the number of adult females 15 years and above on HIV treatment was 1, 0 21, 041, bringing the “total number of people on HIV treatment to 1, 629, 427 as at the end of June 2021”.
Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) Gambo Aliyu, said Nigeria had recorded significant progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS over the last few years.
He said a recalibration of the HIV epidemic showed a significant decline in HIV prevalence from 5.8 in 2001 to 1.3 in 2018.
